December 8th was the first day of the special Year of Mercy, called for by Pope Francis. After a full day of special liturgies inaugurating the jubilee year, crowds gathered in St. Peter’s square for something that had never been done before: a light show on the façade of St Peter’s Basilica.
The show was called Fiat Lux and consisted of photos and videos of various animals, as well as people from around the world, accompanied by music. The show was co-sponsored by the World Bank Group and other organizations and was meant to help raise awareness for the need to combat climate change.
