Thank the Lord for our amazing firefighters!

On Sun., Sept. 1, 2019, Pope Francis was about 10 minutes late for his weekly Sunday address in St. Peter’s Square, explaining that he was trapped in an elevator for 25 minutes.

In the video below, he first announces the appointments of 13 cardinals. He then “apologizes for the delay.”

“First of all, I have to apologize for the delay,” Pope Francis begins. “There was a problem: I was locked in the elevator for 25 minutes!”

With a smile on his face, Pope Francis continues, “There was a drop in voltage and the elevator stopped. Thank God the fire department came–I thank them so much!”

A Prayer for Pope Francis

O God, shepherd and ruler of all the faithful,
look favorably on your servant Francis,
whom you have set at the head of your Church as her shepherd;

Grant, we pray, that by word and example
he may be of service to those over whom he presides
so that, together with the flock entrusted to his care,
he may come to everlasting life.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the
unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.
