President Joe Biden met with Pope Francis on Fri., Oct. 29 at the Vatican.
While this is Biden’s third time to visit the pope, it is his first time as President of the United States. He is the second Catholic president to meet with the Holy Father–the first being President John F. Kennedy.
Meeting the pope is a modern tradition for a president of the United States. It began in 1919 with President Woodrow Wilson, and continued 40 years later with President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
