The viral video also drew thousands of people to the monastery's social media page, sparking curiosity about the sisters and their way of life.

The sisters belong to the Order of Saint Clare, founded by Saint Clare of Assisi and inspired by the spirituality of Saint Francis of Assisi. Known as the Poor Clares, they live a vocation centered on prayer, contemplation, enclosure, and manual work.

Although they live a hidden life, the monastery occasionally shares special moments from the community on social media, giving the faithful a glimpse into their daily lives.

In an interview with G1, Mother Rafaela explained that their support goes far beyond the outcome of a soccer match.

"For us, it was another fraternal moment, but with a broader meaning, because the World Cup isn't just about cheering for our country. It's about contemplating the values of discipline, fraternity, and joy. It's about seeing how human beings can accomplish such beautiful things in a world that sometimes seems to be becoming less and less human."

She also shared that the sisters pray for the Brazilian National Team, asking for the intercession of Saint Padre Pio—the saint to whom coach Carlo Ancelotti has a special devotion—as well as Our Lady of Aparecida.

According to Mother Rafaela, the sisters' preparations for Brazil's next match remain the same:

"Passion fruit juice and lots of faith so that Brazil can win."

Monastery Issues Statement After Going Viral

Because of the overwhelming number of messages and interview requests they received, the Poor Clares published a statement thanking people for their support.

The sisters said they were grateful for the warm response to the video, but explained that the demands of their prayer life prevent them from accepting the many interview requests they have received.

"We are receiving many interview requests and many messages. We thank everyone. We are very happy with the positive response to our video. However, our prayer life is quite demanding, so we will not be able to respond to any more interview requests or inquiries."

The statement concluded with a promise that delighted many of their new followers:

"We are praying for everyone, and on Sunday we will be together again to watch Brazil."

Even behind the walls of the cloister, the Poor Clares showed that there is room for joy, celebration, and love for their country.

This time, just a few seconds of celebration were enough to introduce millions of people to the beautiful witness of a community devoted to prayer.

Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati is well known for his devotion to Our Lady and his service to the poor. However, he also suffered for love.

His story leaves a valuable message about true Christian love.

“She is the one I loved with a pure love”

Frassati narrated his heartaches through several letters to his friends between 1924 and 1925, in which he recalls his love for Laura Hidalgo, a young woman who lost her parents and cared for her younger brother.

According to FrassatiUSA, the young saint met Laura in the spring of 1923 in Little Saint Bernard, where he went skiing.

She was a member of "Gaetana Agnesi," a Catholic female club of university students, and she soon became friends with Frassati.

In 1924, he confessed his feelings for Laura to his sister Luciana. He came "with his big black eyes and told me that he was in love with a girl I know," Luciana said.

Unfortunately, Frassati's relationship with his parents was complicated, and they were on the verge of separation. He then decided not to reveal his feelings, so as not to create more family drama.

Frassati came from a wealthy family, and he feared his parents would not approve of Laura, as she was not of the same social status as his.

"I am reading Italo Mario Angeloni’s romance novel 'I Loved That Way' where he describes in the first part his love for an Andalusian woman, and believe me, I am moved because it seems like my own love story."

"I have also loved like this, only that in the novel it is the Andalusian girl who sacrifices herself, while, in my case, I will be the one sacrificed, because that is what God wants," Frassati wrote in a letter to his friend Isidore Bonini.

FrassatiUSA said Frassati "not only did not say anything to Laura about his feelings, but he did not even hint at them."

However, in letters to friends, he expressed how painful making that decision was, especially when his sister got married in 1925, while he was "sacrificing the idea of a relationship that could have brought him much joy."

"...she is whom I loved with a pure Love and today in renouncing it I desire her happiness. I urge you to pray that God gives me the Christian strength to bear it serenely and that He gives her all earthly happiness and the strength to reach the Goal for which we were created," Frassati said.

"Thus she will always be for me a good friend who, having known her in the most dangerous years of my life, will have helped me to keep on the right path toward the Goal."

Many arrive simply looking for a more affordable place to live, only to discover they've found much more than that.

The trend was highlighted in a report published by The Wall Street Journal, which showed how many newcomers to the city have begun considering these residences as New York's housing costs continue to climb.

The median asking rent in New York reached $3,616 during the first quarter of 2026. For someone just beginning their career, that price can make living alone nearly impossible.

That's exactly what happened to 32-year-old Katie Rettig.

She arrived in New York with two suitcases, a job starting the very next day, and nowhere to live.

Temporary apartments in Manhattan were costing around $5,000 per month. Her solution was the Sacred Heart Residence in Chelsea, where she paid about $1,650 per month.

A few weeks later, she secured a room at St. Mary's Residence on the Upper East Side. She lived there for nearly a year, paying approximately $1,200 per month.

Other residences offer even lower prices.

At St. Agnes Residence on the Upper West Side, rooms start at about $950 per month. At the Maria Center in the Bronx, monthly rates are around $800.

These residences typically welcome people of different faiths and do not require residents to be practicing Catholics.

In exchange for the lower cost, residents agree to follow a few rules. There are curfews, limits on male visitors, alcohol restrictions, and shared household responsibilities.

That last detail especially caught people's attention on social media.

Many commenters pointed out that the greatest benefit of these residences may not even be the affordable rent.

One of the most-liked comments read:

"They live with trustworthy and respectable people, go to bed early, cut out vices, value silence, and are polite."

Another summed up the reaction of many readers:

"The Catholic Church is always saving the world in every way possible."

Others shared their own experiences living in similar places.

"I stayed with nuns in Rome and loved it. We became friends."

Another commenter wrote:

"My daughter lived in a convent for five years while she was in college. Imagine how peaceful that was."

The responses revealed that these residences offer something increasingly difficult to find in major cities:

Silence. Security. Routine. Community.

Many people initially choose them because of the affordable rent, but many end up staying because of the atmosphere.

In a city known for its fast pace and high cost of living, these homes run by nuns continue to offer something that's becoming increasingly rare:

A place where neighbors know one another, people share responsibilities, and it's still possible to find a little peace at the end of the day.

This week, the nation comes together to celebrate 250 years of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. You will surely have opportunities to watch fireworks, attend family barbecues, and wave American flags; please partake in these celebrations.

But as Christians, we also look to the incredible ways God has blessed this country. From religious liberty to entrepreneurial zeal, the United States is a hub of remarkable faith and beauty.

Yes, the American Catholic Church is young compared to places like Rome or the Holy Land, but from the first settlements in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1565, to the early days of independence, Catholics have brought Christ to the New World with courage and awe-inspiring devotion.

Across the United States and around the world, there are churches the Pope sets apart for their rich history, architecture, sacred beauty, and abundant sacramental life. These churches are known as minor basilicas. Here in the United States, we have 94 spread across 35 states.

As we celebrate America 250, these basilicas tell the story of the birth and growth of the American Church.

Here are eight minor basilicas in the USA that inspire a great love for the American Catholic story:

1) Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine – St. Augustine, Florida:

Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine in St. Augustine, Florida / Photo credit: Grady Connolly

On August 28, 1565, Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles set his sights on Florida, eventually arriving on September 8, the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Why do Catholics ring bells at Mass?

Here's the whole thing explained:

In the Middle Ages, churches had many side altars. You can still see the many side chapels when you visit a medieval cathedral in Europe.

Often, the side chapels were added to a church or cathedral by a wealthy benefactor who left an endowment (a parcel of land from which there would be a revenue stream).

The endowment paid for a priest's stipend to say Mass in that chapel every day for the repose of the soul of the donor and his family members.

As a result, Masses were said every day at all the side chapels and altars. In the monasteries, all the monk-priests celebrated their own Mass for designated intentions. The stipends paid by the donors supported the priest or monk.

These priests were called "chantry priests," and in addition to their duty of saying Mass in their chapel, they often had pastoral duties.

The chantry chapel in one of the old Anglican churches where I served, for example, doubled as a school room, and the chantry priest was the schoolmaster.

Anyway...if you went into a medieval church, abbey, or cathedral at any point in the day, Mass would be happening.

In fact, many masses took place at the same time. The church was open, and instead of the faithful going to Mass at a set time to intentionally attend Mass and receive communion, the faithful simply dropped into the church to pray, worship, and spend time with the Lord.

Most people rarely received communion--and if so, only once a year at Easter.

So if they were in the church praying, or even in the church meeting with neighbors for gossip, their attention was given when the bell was rung.

Imagine you are in one of those churches at that time. It's been a busy day for you in the fields. You drop into the church to say your prayers, and while kneeling at the far end, behind the rood screen, a bell rings, and you know the Lord is present.

So you turn your attention to Him in praise and worship. That's why the bells were rung, and if you visit a medieval cathedral today - busy with noisy tourists - you can see why the bell was necessary to quiet people down and turn them to prayer.

The tradition has carried on, and although our circumstances are different, the bell still rings to gather us back and give us focus.

This article originally appeared on Father Dwight Longenecker's X (Formerly Twitter) account.

For more articles like this, check out Father Dwight Longenecker's blog, "Standing on My Head."

This is such a beautiful story! Please pray for this family!

The Little Rose Shop, a Catholic store that sells products for families and children, posted a precious, tear-jerking story about a family that bought one of their infant swaddles.

The shop sells infant swaddles consisting of hopeful Catholic images, prayers, and messages. According to the business’ Instagram account, families often share testimonials about how the product impacts their lives.

Alexander and Shanie MacDonald shared a story about their baby, Gabriel Michael, who recently passed away just seven hours and 38 minutes after birth. Gabriel was born with Trisomy 13, also known as Patau syndrome, “a rare genetic condition when an extra copy of chromosome 13 attaches to a pair of chromosomes.”

The condition typically results in miscarriage or the infant passing away before the age of one.

The MacDonalds explained “how deeply meaningful” a swaddle dedicated to the Holy Family was to them. They said Gabriel Michael passed away as they put him in the swaddle, and it was “the most peaceful and beautiful moment of their lives.”

Shanie also shared that the garment was “more than a swaddle” to them– “It felt so deeply symbolic—like my husband and I were gently handing our son over to the Holy Family to love, protect, and watch over him when we no longer could.”

She concluded that the swaddle “became a final act of love, faith, and trust. It gave us comfort during the most heartbreaking goodbye, and it will forever be tied to the memory of our son’s passing in the most sacred way.”

Here is the full story below:
