How did St. Joseph meet Mary?

“One of the traditions says that a high priest played ‘matchmaker’ for Mary and Joseph. This high priest had a vision (probably of one of the Archangels, I would assume),” Scheel explains in the video.

Fr. Rich Pagano adds, “Probably Gabriel.”

Scheel continues, “The high priest had a vision, which told him there was a girl who was consecrated virgin (she was consecrated at the temple). He said to bring all the widowers to him, and he would pick a spouse for her. This is how the arranged marriage happened, according to this tradition.”

Scheel later adds that the Protoevangelium of James (an early non-canonical “Gospel” that preserved some oral tradition) explains how Mary and Joseph met. 🥰
