"American Idol" season eight finalist Danny Gokey will perform at the March for Life on Fri., Jan. 19, 2024 in Washington, D.C.

Gokey will perform at the March for Life's pre-rally concert from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. local time at the National Mall.

Danny Gokey's Backstory

The singer and Billboard Top 10 recording artist earned his success after making a promise to his late wife to audition for "American Idol".

Gokey's first wife and high school sweetheart, Sophia, died in 2008 during open-heart surgery one month before the "American Idol" auditions. Before her unexpected death, however, she encouraged him to audition for the show.

Holding to his promise, Gokey auditioned one month after her death.

After earning his spot in the top three in "American Idol" season eight, Gokey generated great success on the country music and Christian charts. He now dedicates his career to Christian music and causes. Gokey remarried in 2012 and has four children.

Danny Gokey's Pro-Life Activism

Gokey unapologetically shares his position on abortion.

In 2019, Gokey responded to Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock's promise to "fight for reproductive justice."

"Killing boys and girls in the womb is not a brave or heroic act like the left loves to portray. Every one of us needed someone to fend and fight for us when we couldn’t defend ourselves," Gokey posted. "Most confusingly, abortion has murdered millions of women and blacks--the ones they say they fight for."

In 2021, Gokey published a video explaining why he fights for preborn children and mothers.

"I believe with God's help, we can fight for life and fight for freedom for these babies," he says in the video.

"I’ve made it known that I am pro-life, but that means I am not only for the preborn, but also for the mothers!" Gokey added in the caption.

"I believe that God’s heart is for all to be saved - ALL are welcome. 2,363 babies are aborted in America EVERY DAY, but together we can fight for life and freedom for both babies AND mothers!"

In 2022, the singer republished a Live Action post with the caption, "The whole argument in favor of abortion is FEAR BASED. Name one legitimate reason in favor of having an abortion that’s not inspired by fear."

And in 2023, Gokey spoke with "PassionLife about advocating for unborn children around the world."

"With the abortion argument, it’s always something that really has grieved me because the most innocent, right? The most innocent human beings are being murdered," Gokey said. "It’s the biggest issue of our time."
