The Satanic Temple is raffling off a free abortion as a fundraiser for “religious reproductive rights.”

The fundraiser states that “in accordance with the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), first trimester abortions are now exempt from unnecessary regulations for all individuals practicing The Satanic Temple’s religious abortion ritual.”

The group hopes to raise $100,000 “to mobilize legal operations in order to protect religious abortions from unwarranted government interference.”

The first prize winner receives a free abortion, with up to $2500 in medical expenses.

The Satanic Temple cites first-trimester abortions as a ritual “providing spiritual comfort and affirming bodily autonomy, self-worth, and freedom from coercive forces with the affirmation of TST’s Seven Tenets.

“The ritual is not intended to convince a person to have an abortion. Instead, it sanctifies the abortion process by instilling confidence and protecting bodily rights when undergoing the safe and scientific procedure.

Catholic Church teaching on abortion:

“Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person – among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2270)

“Since the first century, the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law…” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2271)

Catholic Church teaching on Satanism

Satanism is a form of idolatry

All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2116)
