This Royal Princess Renounced Her Crown for the Catholic Church--Would You Do The Same?

Princess Alexandra of Hanover,

Wow, what an incredible act of sacrificial love for the Catholic Church!

Royal Central recently reported that Princess Alexandra of Hanover lost her place in the British line of succession for becoming Catholic!

The news made international headlines!

The 19-year-old princess and figure skater was baptized a Lutheran.

Although, her mother, Princess Caroline of Hanover, has always been Catholic.

Princess Alexandra probably knew this would happen, as the Act of Settlement of 1701 “secured the Protestant succession to the throne.” Therefore, it is against the law for a Catholic to succeed to the British throne.

Although, the The Succession to the Crown Act of 2013 allowed royals to marry Roman Catholics.

Alexandra is still 12th line for the Monegasque throne.

Prince Ernst August of Hanover and Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg is the princess’ father.

He is a descendant of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, which is why Princess Alexandra was in line for the British throne.

Princess Alexandra is not the first person to give up the British throne for her Catholic faith.

The discrimination against Catholics in the British line of succession made extreme headway in the late 1600s.

This document about the Act of Settlement and the Protestant Succession says “many Catholics were forced to resign” due to a “required anti-Catholic declaration” and acceptance of teachings not in line with the Catholic Church.

King James II of England was overthrown and forced to resign after the Revolution of 1688 because of his Catholic faith.

He also renounced his chances for the British crown after becoming Catholic in 2001.

Jesus said in Matt. 6: 19-21:

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth..But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.”

It’s pretty obvious where the treasure lies for these royals!

Would you renounce the British throne for your Catholic faith?
