May 15 is the feast of St. Dymphna.
St. Dymphna is the patron saint of those suffering from mental, emotional, or nervous disorders. She is the perfect saint to turn to if you feel sad or distressed.
St. Dymphna was the daughter of a pagan king in Ireland and a consecrated virgin. After her mother died when she was 14, her Father’s mental health deteriorated. He hoped remarry, but seeing Dymphna reminded him of his wife.
He intended to marry Dymphna, but she fled. One year later, he found her in Belgium. When she refused to marry him, her father killed her. After her death, many miracles occurred through her intercession.
During this time of hardship, let us turn to this powerful saint, asking her to give us peace in our distress.
Prayer to St. Dymphna:
Good Saint Dymphna, great wonder-worker in every affliction of mind and body, I humbly implore your powerful intercession with Jesus through Mary, the Health of the Sick, in my present need… (mention intention here)
Saint Dymphna, martyr of purity, patroness of those who suffer with nervous and mental afflictions, beloved child of Jesus and Mary, pray to them for me and obtain my request.
Saint Dymphna, virgin and martyr, pray for us!
St. Dymphna, please pray for us!
