Will Pope Francis resign?
That’s what reporter Megyn Kelly claims in a viral video she published on Mon., June 20.
The former Fox News and NBC host tweeted, “Unusual activity at the Vatican as reports break that Pope Francis may be about to resign. (And we are there!)”
As of this writing, the video generated more than two million views.

Here’s the text of her video:
“Hey guys, live here at the Vatican. We just happened to be here today on a family vacation when we just read that news broke about this pope – Pope Francis – possibly getting ready to resign.
“Unconfirmed, but I’ll tell you, inside the Vatican, moments ago, we saw a ton of cardinals, which our guy tells us is highly unusual. They’re not used to seeing that. That’s not normal.”

“Moments earlier,” Kelly continued, “when we were in the Sistine Chapel, a priest or a bishop…came in and gave us a blessing. Also highly unusual. What was he doing there? Why was he doing that? What did he know? But there’s a lot of buzz going on right here. So news as we get it.”
Will Pope Francis Resign?
There is no evidence that says Pope Francis will resign, despite Kelly’s claims. The World Meeting of Families kicks off this week in Rome, which explains the elevated activity of cardinals in Vatican City.
Here’s some reliable sources debunking her claims:
EWTN’s Joan Lewis responded to her video, mentioning both the World Meeting of Families and the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul.
Here’s her tweet below:
The full tweet reads, “Megyn, you are weeks behind the first reports (including mine) on Joan’s Rome! Many cardinals and bishops actually work in Rome! Many others in town for World Meeting of Families. Many will be here for [the] June 29 feast of Sts. Peter and Paul!”

Catholic pilgrimage organizer and leader Mountain Butorac (also known as ‘The Catholic Traveler‘) also responded to Kelly’s video.
Here’s his tweet below:
The full tweet reads, “The Sistine chapel priest comes in several times an hour, prays, then hears confessions just outside. I don’t know who you have as a guide, but we have lots of cardinals in Saint Peter’s every day. Let me know if you need help with Catholic Rome — I live right next door. 🙂”
Epoch Times Rome correspondent Bree A. Dail also responded.
Here’s her tweet below:
The tweet reads, “You’re seeing cardinals in St Peter’s as tomorrow kicks off the 10th World Meeting of Families. / As you may have seen to your left coming out of St Peter’s, undeniable press stands set up by the Holy See Press Office for the event. Rumors fly here as in D.C.”
Be careful what you believe!
