The "Padre Pio" movie starring Shia LaBeouf premiered at the Venice Film Festival in Sept. 2022, just a few weeks prior to St. Padre Pio’s Sept. 23 feast day.

The movie now has an official U.S. theatrical release date: June 2. This release falls about one week after Padre Pio's May 25 birthday.

The movie follows the young life of St. Padre Pio, a Franciscan priest, mystic, and stigmatist. It takes place after World War I upon his entry into the Capuchin monastery in San Giovanni Rotondo.

The trailer, which LaBeouf narrates, depicts Padre Pio celebrating Mass, praying, contemplating his vocation, and facing the heated political challenges of that time.

ChurchPOP reported on Aug. 25, 2022 that LaBeouf converted to Catholicism while preparing for the movie. He told Bishop Robert Barron that the Traditional Latin Mass led him to the faith.

LaBeouf told ChurchPOP's Jacqueline Burkepile that he is currently in RCIA and preparing to receive confirmation, which is scheduled in seven months.

What do you think of the previews?
