The ‘Padre Pio’ movie starring Shia LaBeouf will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in early September, just a few weeks prior to St. Padre Pio’s Sept. 23 feast day. The official movie trailer recently dropped on YouTube.
The movie follows the young life of St. Padre Pio, a Franciscan priest, mystic, and stigmatist. It takes place after World War I upon his entry into the Capuchin monastery in San Giovanni Rotondo.
The trailer, narrated by LaBeouf, depicts Padre Pio celebrating Mass, praying, contemplating his vocation, and facing the heated political challenges of that time.

A one-minute movie clip also surfaced on YouTube. The clip shows LaBeouf as Padre Pio distributing communion to the faithful alongside Brother Alexander Rodriguez, O.F.M.

ChurchPOP reported on Aug. 25 that LaBeouf converted to Catholicism while preparing for the movie. He told Bishop Robert Barron that the Traditional Latin Mass led him to the faith.
However, Catholic News Agency spoke with Brother Alexander Rodriguez, O.F.M., a close confidant of LaBeouf. The brother said LaBeouf has not yet completed his catechetical education program through RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation) due to his filming schedule.
He said LaBeouf still intends to receive confirmation, but he does not know if the actor received his first reconciliation.
