Have you become indifferent to the reality that abortion exists, and it is still quite prevalent in the United States and in the world?

Father Mark-Mary Ames, CFR, posed this question in his recent video for Ascension Presents.

“When was the last time you thought about it? When was the last time you did something about it?” he continues.

The reality, similarly reflected in the video caption, is that although the issue of abortion may not touch our daily lives directly, the reality of this grave matter is staggering. More than 200,000 abortions take place worldwide every single day.

This topic is also timely as we prepare for the 2026 March for Life in Washington, D.C., on Friday, January 23.

Regarding the sanctity of human life from conception, the Catechism of the Catholic Church (2270) says,

"Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person, among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life."

In the video, Father Mary-Mary challenges viewers, as Christians, to recognize our responsibility to defend the lives of the unborn.

“Ending the evil of abortion requires prayer, sacrifice, and courageous action rooted in love. Each of us is called to do our part,” the video caption explains.

During the Ascension Presents YouTube video, Father Mary-Mary offers three “powerful and concrete” challenges for pro-lifers:

1) Pray at an abortion clinic at least once in 2026.

Father Mark-Mary also suggests a “starting point” of praying one Rosary a week for children in the womb, for mothers, and at-risk pregnancies.

2) Make an ongoing and reasonable sacrifice for those considering or affected by abortion.

“Something concrete, relatively small, reasonable,” he offers.

Personally, he explains, he plans to forego sugar in his coffee each morning for this intention.

3) Find out which companies support abortion, including those that fund or facilitate out-of-state abortion travel, and consider stopping your support for them.

“One that really kind of stood out to me and convicted me is companies are now paying for employees to travel out of state to procure abortions if it’s no longer legal in their state,” he explains.

This, he believes, goes beyond general support. It’s an action that some large companies are taking.

Two companies he mentions by name in the video are Starbucks and Nike.

“Something has to be different in our lives,” he challenges.

At the end of the video, Father Mark-Mary calls viewers to pray for the renewal and the conversion of politicians who are actively promoting abortion.

“Let’s pray for all the children in the womb. Let’s pray for women in at-risk pregnancy. Let’s continue to pray for all those women and fathers who have suffered abortion in some way, for their conversion and their healing,” he concludes.
