People all over the world are pitching their ideas for the renovation of Notre Dame Cathedral.

Multiple professional architects proposed their view of how Notre Dame should look upon its renovation completion.

Here’s 6 of the most bizarre Notre Dame renovation proposals we found floating around the internet:

1) Rooftop Swimming Pool

Ulf Mejergren Architects proposed building a swimming pool on the rooftop, rather than rebuilding the spire.

The company’s website explains that “most proposals that we have seen puts way too much focus and effort on the spire; a rather recent addition built in the 19th century renovation.”

“Instead we are proposing a meditative public space; a complementary spatial experience to the building with unmatched views over Paris,” the company continued.

“The spire is gone, but the twelve statues of the apostles that where put away during the restoration and managed to escape the fire, are once again back at the roof, now as guardians around a large public pool that occupies the whole roof.”

2) Rooftop Parking Lot

Twitter user Yung Yonge posted an image of Notre Dame’s rooftop reconstructed into a parking lot.

However, he explained in the comments that this proposal is actually a joke.

Then architect Rob Cross added to the joke with a picture of a multi-level parking lot. He tweeted, “Sure, whilst we’re at it, let’s go multi-level car parking!😉”

Here’s Cross’s photo below:

3) Rooftop Penthouse

Referencing Victor Hugo’s book “Hunchback of Notre Dame,” which Hollywood based multiple movies off of, Who Cares Design proposed a rooftop penthouse.

The penthouse includes a garden and pool.

5) Palingenesis

Vincent Callebaut Architecture titled their project “Palingenesis,” which derives from greek, meaning “rebirth.” The design combines gothic architecture and a biomimetic forest.

The company’s website explains that they “advocate for an exemplary project in ecological engineering that feels true to its time and avoids a pastiche architecture that turns the city into an open-air museum.

“Circular economy, renewable energies, inclusive social innovation, urban agriculture, protection of biodiversity, without forgetting beauty and spiritual elevation: our reconstruction project feeds on such values to deliver a deep, conscious meaning.”

6) Flame-Like Spire

French designer and architect Mathieu Lehanneur posted a photo of his proposal on Instagram.

“Some say that we should rebuild the spire as it was originally. Others say that we should design a new one. So, let’s build a new one as it was… 8 days ago,” Lehanneur explained in his post.

The designer told the New York Times that the post received a heavy negative response. Some even called it blasphemous.

However, he explained that the flame is a powerful, biblical symbol.

Let us pray for the proper reconstruction of Notre Dame Cathedral, according to God’s will.

Our Lady, please pray for Notre Dame Cathedral!
