The creators of the Pastime Pictures film “Monster Summer,” starring David Henrie and Mel Gibson, have entered a new era of filmmaking.
Their newest animated project, “Great Battles for Boys,” aims to "inspire a love for reading and learning while directing young minds towards the example of virtue and honor demonstrated by our country’s heroic Veterans.” The animated series is based on a book series of the same title.
According to the first episode’s description,
“Two best friends and their robot sidekicks dive into history’s greatest conflicts, turning legendary battles into unforgettable adventures.”
The most recent episode honors United States Veterans.
“We celebrate Veterans’ Day every year, but do we really understand why?” ‘Great Battles for Boys’ producer, director, and Pastime Pictures co-founder John Blanford said.
“‘Great Battles for Boys’ wanted to honor all Veterans, past and present, by shining a light on this important commemoration in our latest episode available now. It’s also never too early to inspire a younger generation toward heroic virtue, like our Veterans who remain a tremendous example to us all.”
The other episodes include explaining the meaning of July 4th and the American Revolution. Additionally, they cover the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and D-Day.
While this series is not explicitly religious, its messages align with the Christian call to emulate heroic virtue, courage, loyalty, and sacrificial living.
It also brings to light the importance of understanding the sacrifices of Veterans and soldiers who have gone before us.
“As fathers, movie producers, and creators, we wanted to use our expertise to get involved with this concerning trend impacting the younger generation," director, producer, and Pastime Pictures co-founder Dan McDonough said. "We are passionate about creating content that not only entertains but also encourages reading, teaches valuable life lessons, and inspires an exploration of history.”

Catholic Prayer for Veterans
Lord God, Almighty Father,
creator of mankind and author of peace,
as we are ever mindful of the cost
paid for the liberty we possess,
we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces.
Give them courage, hope, and strength.
May they ever experience your firm support,
gentle love and compassionate healing.
Be their power and protector,
leading them from darkness to light.
To you be all glory, honor, and praise,
now and forever.
Amen.
