In a recently surfaced video, U.S. Representative Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey questioned the FBI about their investigations into Catholics.

CatholicVote published the video on April 11, showing Van Drew questioning the Federal Bureau of Investigation on the House of Representatives’ floor.

Van Drew’s questioning comes in response to a report that the FBI infiltrates Catholic Churches as a means of combating “radical extremism.” The information was released in a since-withdrawn memo investigating “radical-traditionalist Catholic ideology.”

As of this writing, the video’s tweet generated over 150,000 views.

“It’s OK to be Roman Catholic, right?” Van Drew asks the agent.

The FBI agent did not immediately answer.

“Yes,” the agent responds after a long pause.

“Okay, I was getting a little nervous. I’m Roman Catholic.”

“I’ll say yes,” another agent adds.

“What is radical Catholic ideology?” Van Drew continues. “Why were we looking into that? What is that about?”

The agent does not provide any additional information, but claims he does not support the memo.

Van Drew then explains that “Mass is a very peaceful thing, where people pray and get Holy Communion.” He does not understand why the FBI felt the need to investigate Catholics.

This video follows the ongoing persecution of Christians and Catholics throughout the United States, both on the local and federal levels.

During Amy Coney Barrett’s 2020 Supreme Court confirmation hearings, Sen. Dianne Feinstein expressed “concern” regarding her potential appointment.

The Democratic senator said Barrett’s Catholic faith could potentially affect her court decisions, which in turn, could negatively affect certain ideologies.

“When you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you, and that’s of concern. When you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for for years in this country,” the senator said.

In addition to Feinstein’s comments, the persecution of Catholics and the central teachings of the Church increased over the last three years.

For example, Catholic churches and pro-life pregnancy centers were vandalized, attacked, and firebombed, with no federal charges brought.

On April 12, news broke that the attacker of a Washington state Catholic Church will face “no jail time” after causing $30,000 in damages. The attacker broke windows and a statue of the Blessed Mother, and wrote offensive graffiti on the property.

At the same time, the FBI targeted and brought charges against pro-life activist and husband and father of seven children Mark Houck.

Twenty-five armed federal agents raided his home on Sept. 22, 2023 in front of his wife and children in response to what they saw as a violation of the FACE Act in Oct. 2021.

However, a Philadelphia federal jury unanimously acquitted Houck on Jan. 30, 2023.

As persecution of Christians increases across the United States, let us ask St. Michael the Archangel and the Blessed Mother to protect our efforts of spreading the truth of Jesus Christ.

“Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matt. 5:10)
