The Council of State in France has reportedly upheld a TV ban on a short video that shows people with down syndrome living happy lives, saying the video may make people who have aborted their pre-born down syndrome children feel bad.
Titled “Dear Future Mom,” the heart-warming video (which you can watch below) features 15 people with Down syndrome talking about what their lives are like and ends with them hugging their moms.
In upholding the ban, the Council of State said the video was “likely to disturb the conscience of women who had lawfully made different personal life choices.” The phrase “different personal life choice” is of course a euphemism for parents killing their pre-born children via abortion.
It’s estimated that around 90% of all children determined to have Downs Syndrome prior to birth are aborted in the United States and Europe.
The pro-life Lejeune Foundation plans to take the case to the European Court for Human Rights.
One commentator on the subject thinks France is taking exactly the wrong course of action: “I have a much better idea, let’s not ban the video but make it compulsory for every couple considering a selective abortion for Down syndrome. Let’s show them the truth that families with Down syndrome have an enormous good quality of life. Let’s show a future of hope, unconditional love and yes, a lot of smiles and happiness.
“To those who persevere in their negative, discriminatory view on life with Down syndrome I would like to say: you may be free to make a choice; but you are not free from the consequences of that choice. Our children should not be the ones bearing the consequences of your choice.”
