During FOX’s Big Noon Saturday broadcast, Indiana Hoosiers all-star Fernando Mendoza gives all the glory to God for their win against Penn State.
Alongside teammate Omar Cooper Jr., Mendoza begins his post-game interview saying,
“First of all–I know we both agree with this–we want to give all the glory to God. Without Him, we wouldn’t be here right now, and it’s so amazing that He’s given us this opportunity and platform to do this.”
His humble response to the team’s incredible victory quickly made its way across the internet.
Father Patrick Hyde, OP, shared the tweet below, saying,
“Fernando Mendoza backs up his talk on TV by giving glory to God at Sunday Mass.
"I have wrestled with sharing this because he shows up out of love for God, not human praise.
But I share because I hope his witness inspires others to go to Mass.”

One user commented on the tweet thread, saying,
“Love seeing him and his brother at Mass. A great example for my 11 & 7 year old boys.”
This isn’t the first time that Mendoza has acknowledged his faith after a win on the field.
The Indiana superstar gave glory to God after an impressive win over Oregon earlier this season:
The caption alongside the CBS Sports interview reads,
“Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza gives all glory to God after a huge win over Oregon.
"When faith meets the field–anything is possible.”
He has an even longer history of humble, faith-based post-game remarks, though.
What an inspiration!
Here is a prayer asking for the intercession of Saint Sebastian, patron saint of athletes:
Commander at the Roman Emperor’s court, You chose to be also a soldier of Christ and dared to spread faith in the King of Kings, for which you were condemned to die. Your body, however, proved athletically strong and the executing arrows extremely weak. So another means to kill you was chosen and you gave your life to the Lord. May athletes be always as strong in their faith as their Patron Saint so clearly has been.
Intercede for us, we pray, that our faith may imitate yours and that God may protect us as we seek to use the gifts He has given us to glorify Him this day.
Amen
