The National Shrine of Saint Joseph is one of the oldest centers of devotion to Saint Joseph, dating back to the 17th century. Its origins are tied to the miraculous healing of a man who commissioned a painting of the Holy Family following an inspiration attributed to the saint.

Recognized as miraculous and crowned in the 18th century, the image drew numerous pilgrims and gave rise to a major sanctuary. It is also associated with events such as the liberation of prisoners from the Dachau concentration camp during World War II.

6) Sanctuary of Our Lady of Grace – Cotignac, France

On June 7, 1660, in Cotignac, Saint Joseph appeared to a young shepherd named Gaspard Ricard on Mount Bessillon—one of the very few recognized apparitions of the saint, and the only one in which he appeared alone. According to tradition, he instructed the boy to move a large rock, from which a spring of water miraculously flowed—still venerated today. Following this event, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces was built on the site.

Sant'Anastasia al Palatino is one of the oldest churches in Rome. It houses a relic associated with Saint Joseph—his cloak—kept alongside the veil of the Virgin Mary. According to tradition, these relics were brought there by Jerome, strengthening devotion to Saint Joseph as protector of the Holy Family.

Each of these sacred places reveals a different aspect of Saint Joseph’s life and mission: father, worker, protector, and man of silent faith—who continues to guide believers on their daily path to holiness.

Saint Joseph, pray for us!
