The consecration is the central moment of the Mass, when the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. These powerful prayers can help you enter more deeply into that moment.
Catholic convert Jessica Weaver shared a reflection on her Instagram account, Sacred Heart Blog, inviting us to rediscover this key moment.
As she explains, at every Mass there is an instant when everything seems to pause: “when the priest elevates the consecrated Host and proclaims, ‘This is my Body.’”
“At that moment, Heaven touches earth. Jesus becomes truly present—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity—on the altar.”
This is a moment of adoration and silence, but also of a deep interior encounter. In our hearts, we can offer Jesus simple prayers that express faith, love, and surrender.
Here are Jessica Weaver's five prayer suggestions from her Sacred Heart Blog on Instagram:
1) “My Lord and my God!”
These were the words of Saint Thomas the Apostle when he recognized the risen Christ. Saying them expresses profound faith in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.
2) “Jesus, I love you. I adore you. I believe in you. I trust in you.”
A simple yet complete act of adoration and devotion that gladdens the Heart of Jesus.
3) “Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
With humility, we acknowledge our need for His mercy and grace in this sacred moment.
4) Offer a personal intention.
This is a beautiful moment to silently offer your deepest prayer: for healing, conversion, peace, or thanksgiving.
5) Unite your heart with Mary’s.
Say: “Jesus, I adore you with the Heart of Mary.” She teaches us to love Him perfectly.
Weaver reminds us that the consecration is the high point of the Mass, and we should not let it pass by amid distractions.
“Use it as a gateway to deeper communion with Jesus. The next time you see the Host elevated, let your heart rise with it,” she concludes.
