Father Matt Lowry is a man of God with a great sense of humor!
ChurchPOP caught up with the young, energetic priest from Northern Arizona University at SEEK 2026 in Denver, Colorado.
You may recognize him from his viral videos on social media, featured on the Catholic Jacks' Instagram and TikTok accounts.
Father Matt gave us an inside look at the motivation behind his social media engagement and what led to his channels gaining popularity on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
When asked what inspired him to engage on social media as a priest, Father Matt explained that his social media presence actually began on Vine.
Vine was a pioneering short-form video app that gained popularity in the mid-2010s before shutting down in 2017.
“TikTok became the newest thing,” he explained.
“My staff member said, ‘Hey Father, I need you to stand here and do this thing.’ So we did it, and people liked it!”
Father Matt said that it was their fourth video that went viral.

“It was the trend where you jump up and land and you have different clothing on,” he said.
“I was like, ‘We do that.’”
This reminded him of changing vestments according to the liturgical seasons.
Father Matt goes on to say that people across the internet “lost their minds,” including fallen-away Catholics.
“A priest doing something other than Mass? Mind blown.”
When asked specifically about his goals with social media evangelization, Father Matt explains,
“We’re just going to be true to who we are and just share in the joy of the Gospel. The Lord has just borne great fruit.”
In addition to hopping on viral trends, Father Matt and his team share content based on Mass readings and happenings in the Church.
