Pope Leo can't get enough of his Chicago White Sox! 😂

On Friday, November 21, 2025, Pope Leo XIV sat down for a historic digital encounter with over 16,000 young people from across the United States at the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Moderated by Catholic speaker, author, and Sirius XM Radio host Katie Prejean McGrady, the Holy Father allowed several young people to ask him questions addressing various topics. The digital encounter lasted for 45 minutes.

Some of the subjects covered included accepting God’s mercy, handing over our struggles to the Lord, communicating better with others, distractions during prayer, and balancing faith and technology. He also stressed the importance of the youth in the Catholic Church today and in the future.

However, Pope Leo revealed something unexpected during his conversation with McGrady: he only wears 'White Sox' – and he has a Wordle strategy!

(If you’re wondering what Wordle is, it’s a popular New York Times game. Players have six chances to guess the five-letter word of the day.)

McGrady said,

"Last time I saw you, I gave you a pair of socks, and I feel like I have to let you know I'm still wearing some Pope socks, just, you know, so we're in solidarity."

Pope Leo responded,

"I just want to say I only wear 'White Sox' and I use a different word for Wordle every day.”

What is NCYC?

According to the official website for NCYC,

“NCYC (National Catholic Youth Conference) is a powerfully unique three-day experience of prayer, community, evangelization, catechesis, service, and empowerment for Catholic teenagers (of high school age) and their adult chaperones.
“NCYC is the premier Catholic youth event on a national scale that gathers people from all across America for a life-changing encounter with Christ.”

Let us continue to pray for Pope Leo XIV!
