The canonization of Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati, celebrated this Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025, at the Vatican, included a special gesture from Brazil.
After the Mass presided over by Pope Leo XIV, which drew around 80,000 faithful to Saint. Peter’s Square, the team from the Catholic publishing house Minha Biblioteca Católica presented Carlo’s mother, Antonia Salzano, with a never-before-published comic book series about the life of the new saint.
The three-volume collection tells the story of the “patron saint of the internet,” offering a full timeline of his life along with the Eucharistic miracles he documented. Upon receiving the publication, Antonia praised its editorial quality and, with a smile, joked that her son is like a “superhero of faith.”
For Walesca Camargo, the publisher’s content creator, the encounter in Rome was unforgettable.
“It was a true blessing to be able to meet Carlo’s mother on such a special day for the Church. It was very moving to be here and, in addition to witnessing the celebration, to meet the family of a saint up close,” she said.
A Special Connection with Brazil
Carlo Acutis’ canonization has a particularly strong tie to Brazil. The first miracle attributed to his intercession took place in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, in 2010, when a six-year-old boy was inexplicably cured of a serious illness. This event initiated the process that led to Carlo’s beatification. The young Italian died on October 12, 2006—fittingly, on the feast of Our Lady of Aparecida, Patroness of Brazil.
In addition to the novel, Minha Biblioteca Católica recently released the biography Carlo Acutis: His Life, His Example, and His Miracles, which features Carlo’s own writings and previously unpublished testimonies. The foreword was written by his mother, Antonia Salzano.
In April of this year, when the canonization was originally scheduled—but later postponed due to the death of Pope Francis—the publisher had already traveled to Italy to produce a documentary on Carlo’s life. That film is now available for free on YouTube.
Representatives from the publishing house also took part in the papal audience with Pope Leo XIV on Saturday, September 6. On that occasion, they presented members of their team with a book on Saint Augustine, Doctor of the Church and a source of inspiration for the pope.
