Why does the Church seem to be dying the West?

For decades, many Christians have thought it was because the Church was too strict and dogmatic, and if only the Church would lighten up a bit we might attract new converts.

But it hasn’t worked. In fact, it’s had the opposite effect.

Brian Holdsworth thinks he knows why. He says that when we lower our standards, we communicate to people that Christianity isn’t very important – so why should they change their life for it?

To regain our vitality, he argues, the Church should actually raise the bar, as counterintuitive as that seems.
