Thieves Fearing Curse Return Stolen Relic of Christ's Blood to "Indiana Jones of Art"

Thieves anonymously returned an ancient relic of the Blood of Christ to Dutch art detective Arthur Brand, he announced on July 12.

The relic was stolen from Fécamp Abbey Church in France on June 1. The thieves then returned the 2000-year-old relic to the detective’s doorstep in the middle of the night.

The relic is said to contain two vials of Jesus’ blood collected in the Holy Grail during His crucifixion.

Brand, also known as the “Dutch Indiana Jones” for recovering stolen art, said the thieves contacted him via Protonmail fearing a curse.

“This person was approaching me on behalf of another, at whose home the stolen relics were being stored,” Brand told France24.

“To have the ultimate relic, the blood of Jesus in your home–stolen–that’s a curse,” he explained. “When they realized what it was, that you in fact cannot sell it, they knew they had to get rid of it.”

The detective said he will return the relic to authorities.

Said to contain blood drops of Jesus Christ, collected in the Holy Grail from his wounds at the Cross. Stolen on June 2nd, 2022 in France. AMEN!”

Brand also said finding the relic was “a religious experience.”

“As a Catholic myself, this is about as close to Jesus and the legend of the Holy Grail you can get,” he said.
