How often do you listen to Gregorian chant?
Many exorcists say Gregorian chant is a very powerful spiritual weapon against the Evil One. However, how do you know you’re listening to the right chant?
On Diocese of Nashville exorcist Father Dan Reehil’s “Battle Ready” podcast, one caller says he listened to exorcist assistant Dan Schneider explain to Shawn Ryan that some Gregorian chant had literally “no effect” on demons during an exorcism.
After explaining this context, the caller asked,
“I’ve been listening to the Monks of the Abbey of Notre Dame's Gregorian chant, and I wanted to know if that is a sufficient Gregorian chant to listen to?”
Father Reehil responds, warning the caller that not all chant is the same. Some chant is connected to Eastern Mysticism, which will not affect the demons. He explained that listeners must find Catholic chant in the Latin language for it to be effective.
“If you go on YouTube, there is a lot of Eastern mysticism chant that is not Catholic chant, and that’s the problem,” Reehil explains. “So, if you get Catholic chant and it’s Latin, you’re fine.”
Father Reehil then recommends Floriani’s Gregorian chant for spiritual warfare or Gregorian chant from the Abbey at Fontgombault, France.

Here is the text of the “Battle Ready” excerpt on Gregorian chant:
Caller: “So my question is on Gregorian chant, and for context, I listened to an interesting conversation with Dan Schneider on The Shawn Ryan Podcast. And if you’re not familiar with Dan, he is an exorcist assistant…so he’ll go into an exorcist playing, on a very low volume, Gregorian chant, and it will basically be like, nails on a chalkboard to the demon during the exorcism, right?
“And he shared that one time, he just shuffled whatever Gregorian chants, and it had no effect on the devil whatsoever because they weren’t the right composer or artist.
“And so I guess my acute question is, I’ve been listening to the Monks of the Abbey of Notre Dame's Gregorian chant, and I wanted to know if that is a sufficient Gregorian chant to listen to?”
Father Dan Reehil: “I mean, I think it would be. If it’s actually at a Catholic abbey, I think it’s fine. The problem is, there are many—if you go on YouTube—there are a lot of chant that is Eastern mysticism chant that is not Catholic chant, and that’s the problem.
“So, if you get Catholic chant and it’s Latin, you’re fine. Also, a wonderful group of men called, I think it’s Floriani, and they do—all their chant is spiritual warfare chant. So that would be another great one. The Abbey at Fontgombault, France, is another good one. So you—you can find them.
"Just put in “Catholic chant” when you do your search, and that should get rid of all the Eastern stuff."
