Worrying about our children is natural. But prayer is not about controlling their path—it is about entrusting it to God. This Lent, the Catholic app Theo invites parents to pray for their children with more faith and less fear, placing their lives and futures in the Lord’s hands.

Through its Spanish-language Instagram account, the app reminded users that parents often want to control their children's future to spare them from suffering. However, true prayer means "placing their heart, their story, and their journey in God's hands."

“This Lent, let us learn to pray for them with confidence instead of fear, with surrender instead of anxiety, and with the certainty that Jesus always comes to meet them,” the app says.

To live out this attitude of trust, Theo proposes four concrete ways to pray for our children during this liturgical season:

1) Pray for their hearts and their relationship with God.

Before asking that everything go well for them, pray that their hearts may learn to recognize God, listen to Him in silence, and trust Him even when they do not understand. A heart united with God will always find its way.

Prayer

Lord, take my son’s heart in Your hands and mold it with Your love. Teach him to recognize Your voice amid the noise of the world and to seek You not only when everything is easy, but also in confusion and pain.

May nothing and no one ever silence the certainty that he is deeply loved, sustained, and guided by You. Amen.

2) Pray for their identity and their worth.

Pray that they will not build their identity on what the world demands or what others expect of them, but on the truth: that they are children of God. May they know who they are, even when the world tries to confuse them.

Prayer

Lord, remind my son who he is when he forgets and feels lost. Heal his heart from comparison, fear, rejection, and doubt.

Deeply root in him the truth that he is Your beloved—that his worth comes not from success or approval, but from being seen and loved by You. Amen.

3) Pray for their protection and their decisions.

You cannot always be there. You will not always know what they are facing—but God does. Pray that the Holy Spirit will guide them when they must make choices and protect them where you cannot reach them.

Prayer

Good Father, walk before my son and always remain by his side. Protect him from visible dangers and also from those I cannot see or understand.

Illuminate his mind when he is confused, strengthen his will when he feels weak, and gently guide him along paths of truth, freedom, and life. Amen.

4) Pray that along their journey, they will always return to the Father’s embrace.

They will make mistakes. They will stray. They will learn along the way. Pray that they never forget that Jesus is waiting for them and that there is always a home to return to.

Prayer

Jesus, if one day my child becomes lost or strays from You, do not let him forget Your voice calling him by name. Find him in the silence, in the questions, and also in the wounds.

Soften his heart, awaken in him the desire to return home, and gently guide him into the arms of the Father—where mercy is infinite, love restores all, and every return becomes a new beginning. Amen.

“During Lent, let us learn to pray for our children with more faith, more trust, and less fear,” the app concludes.
