Elizabeth Reyes and Julián Blanco got engaged in Lisieux, France, in front of the tombs of Saint Louis Martin and Saint Zélie Martin, the parents of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, at the Basilica of Saint Thérèse in Lisieux, France.
The couple shared the touching moment on Instagram, where their story has already moved many hearts.
On their account, La Cocina que Suena (The Kitchen that Sounds), they explained that throughout their relationship, Saint Thérèse has been their friend and guide. For this reason, visiting the place where the Carmelite saint lived became a very special moment for both of them.
“She has helped us overcome challenges and build the dreams that at the beginning seemed very far away. Coming to her home to entrust this new stage of our lives together to her is a gift from heaven.”
They also recalled one of the best-known teachings of the saint of the “Little Way”: that true love does not require extraordinary gestures, but faithfulness in the small things of everyday life.
“Teresita has reminded us every day that we don’t have to do extraordinary things to truly love; it’s enough to do the smallest, most ordinary things with the greatest love,” they wrote.
The engagement took place before the relics of Saint Louis and Saint Zélie Martin, the parents of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, and the first married couple canonized together by the Catholic Church.
Their witness of marital love and family life continues to inspire thousands of couples around the world.
At the end of their message, Elizabeth and Julián requested those who have followed their story:
“We only ask that you pray for us.”
The video has already surpassed 160,000 views and accumulated more than 11,000 likes.
In the comments, many users shared messages of joy, congratulations, and prayers for the couple.
“The Little Flower and her parents, Saints Louis and Zélie, will be a great help to them. What better way to approach the sacrament of marriage than before two great saints who gave so many daughters to the Church?”
“In front of the parents of Saint Thérèse. A holy marriage—God bless them greatly.”
“Saint Thérèse, always the architect of everything beautiful. She is always loved and embraces the hopes and dreams of simple souls.”
