1/3rd of the World’s Countries’ Flags Have Religious Symbols on Them

A few noteworthy facts:
- 64 of the world’s 196 countries (or 32.7%) have religious symbols on their flags
- 48% of the flags with religious symbols have Christian symbols
- 33% of the flags with religious symbols have Islamic symbols
- Only one country in the world has a Jewish symbol: Israel
- The flags for Uruguay and Argentina include the image of a sun believed to be representative of the Incan sun god Inti
- The Mexican flag has the Aztec god Huitzilopochtli as an eagle perched atop a cactus with a snake in its beak
