Pray for Shia LaBeouf!
Fr. Hai Ho, OFM, of the Franciscan Capuchins in Burlingame, Cali. posted a video of his order hanging out with actor Shia LaBeouf as he prepares for a movie about St. Padre Pio’s life.
News broke earlier this week that the 35-year-old actor will portray the young St. Padre Pio in director Abel Ferrara’s latest movie.
Fr. Ho published a video of LaBeouf explaining his time and experience with the Franciscans.
Fr. Ho’s post reads, “Shia LaBeouf is hanging out with the Capuchins! He’ll be playing the part of the young Padre Pio in an upcoming movie, so he came by just as we were having our Council meeting to learn more about the friars. It was great to meet Shia and hear his story, as well as share about religious life, Jesus and the Capuchins. Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, pray for us!

Here’s the text of Fr. Ho’s video with LaBeouf:
“I’m Shia LaBeouf, and I’m completely immersed in something way bigger than myself. I don’t know if I’ve ever met a group of men as immersed in anything in my life. It’s super attractive to see people give themselves to something so divine, and it’s heartwarming to know that there’s a brotherhood like this that exists.
“I’ve been met with nothing but grace since I’ve been here. I’m so honored to meet you guys.”
“We’re making a film–me, Abel Ferrara, and William DaFoe–we’re making a movie called ‘Padre Pio’ about the great Padre Pio, and we’re trying to get as close to the accurate depiction of what it’s like to be a friar as possible. And trying to get as close to the human, tangible, tactile relationship that this man had with Christ. And we’re bringing the Good News to the world.”

LaBeouf told Interview Magazine he converted from Judaism to Christianity while filming the 2014 movie Fury.
“I found God doing Fury. I became a Christian man…in a real way,” he said. “I could have just said the prayers that were on the page. But it was a real thing that really saved me.”
St. Padre Pio, please pray for Shia LaBeouf!
