Pray for the United States! 🇺🇸

On Dec. 8, the United States House of Representatives passed the ‘Respect for Marriage Act,’ enshrining federal protections for same-sex unions.

The act redefines civil marriage as “any marriage between two individuals that is valid under state law.” It will soon become law after Pres. Biden signs the bill.

The bill drew criticism from religious and conservative groups, as it opens the door for persecution of those who believe in the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman.

Before its final passage in the House, Rep. Vicky Hartzler wept and begged her colleges to oppose the bill.

Shalom World correspondent Sachin Jose published the clip on Twitter.

The full tweet reads, “The cry of America. / Missouri Congresswomen Vicky Hartzler broke down in [tears] today during the House of Representatives’ voting session on the Respect for Marriage Act, which is a threat to religious freedom. She said that the bill disrespects the importance to traditional marriage.”

In the video, Rep. Hatzler says, as she holds back tears, “I hope and pray that my colleges will find the courage to join me in opposing this misguided and this dangerous bill.”

Several social media users responded to the post with concerns that it could infringe on religious freedoms.

Here’s how some users reacted:

Another user commented, “Not only [does] it [disrespect] religious beliefs, but [also denies] one of the most important achievements of human civilization!”

This user also said, “It will be used as a legal tool to come after any Christian church and or organization and sue them if they do not tote the government line.”

Catholic Church teaching on homosexual unions

The Catholic Church teaches that people with homosexual tendencies “must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity,” but that homosexual acts constitute “grave depravity,” are “intrinsically disordered,” and that “under no circumstances can they be approved.” Instead, “homosexual persons are called to chastity.” (CCC 2357-2359)

Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, please pray for the United States of America! 🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻
