Andrea & Veronica Bocelli Visit Multiple Catholic Sites in 200-Mile Pilgrimage on Horseback

Executive producer Veronica Bocelli, wife of world-renowned singer Andrea Bocelli, sat down with ChurchPOP’s Jacqueline Burkepile for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at her new film, “The Journey: A Musical Special From Andrea Bocelli.”

In the film, Andrea and Veronica Bocelli travel on horseback for a 200-mile pilgrimage across Italy’s ancient Via Francigena, beginning in Rome with a blessing from Pope Francis.

The two explored several cathedrals, abbeys, and other Catholic locations in the musical special. They also spent some quality time with their children.

In this interview, Veronica explains the adventure, how it impacted her faith and relationship with her husband, how she felt upon receiving a special papal blessing, and why they chose these beautiful and historic Catholic locations. In an additional interview with ChurchPOP, Andrea Bocelli told Burkepile how the pilgrimage impacted his faith.

“For a long time, I’ve tried to increase my faith in many ways with books, speaking with a spiritual person–so many ways. In this journey, of course, it has been a big opportunity for me, in order to pray and visit beautiful churches and sanctuaries.”

He also explained what he hopes viewers take from the film.

“For sure the beauty of our country, and on top of that, a message of faith and hope,” Andrea said.

Veronica added that she hopes viewers gather both the beauty of nature and a love for faith from the film.

“Hopefully we move the curiosity of few of the pilgrims…you decide to do it because you’re in the middle of nature, because you like to walk, and then you find your faith. Or the opposite way around, because you’re very religious, and in a certain way, we move you from the seats and allow you to be in the beauty of nature.”
