Wow! You definitely don’t see this every day!

Singer Bruno Mars recently went viral on social media for opening one of his shows with a prayer asking God to protect his audience from harm. He also petitions God to provide his band with the ability to put on an unforgettable show.

Kneeling inside a church, Bruno Mars says,

“God, I thank you for giving me another day to do what I love,” Mars begins. “All that I ask is that you protect everyone in this audience. Protect everyone on this stage. Give my band and I the power and strength to give this city a show they’ll never forget. Amen.”

Mars concludes his show opening with the Sign of the Cross as bells ring. He then puts his hat back on, places a rose on the altar, and leaves the church.

Here is the Bruno Mars concert opening below:

The Catholic Bruno Mars fan who posted the video wrote,

“As a Hooligan for 16 years, this moment hit really close to my Catholic heart,” the user said. “The way Bruno put God first was so beautiful. It was such an intimate moment to witness him kneel before God, pray for protection over everyone in the stadium, and make the sign of the cross.
“Seeing him then perform on stage while wearing his crucifix and medal of Our Lady of Guadalupe made it even more meaningful. It’s a moment I’ll truly never forget as a Hooligan. Thank you, God, for giving me the opportunity to see Bruno on tour once again!
ALL GLORY TO GOD!!! ♰”

Note: A “Hooligan” is a term used to describe a Bruno Mars fan.

Here is another video of the show's opening:

As of this writing, the original Bruno Mars video has generated almost two million views, nearly 250,000 likes, over 9,000 reposts, and more than 27,000 shares.

Although the comments were limited, several users responded:

“Jesus Christ is God and the only way to Heaven,” one user wrote.
“Bruno Mars is the best,” another person said.
“The way Bruno put God first was so beautiful,” someone else added.
“Love this,” another user said.

This is not the first time Bruno Mars has publicly displayed his faith.

Mars dropped his “Risk It All” video in February, which featured a multitude of Catholic imagery, including Our Lady of Guadalupe and a crucifix. (However, the video featured the Polish National Catholic Church, which is not in full communion with Rome.)

The lyrics and video also recognize marriage as a holy and sacrificial commitment:

“To hold your hand and call you mine
I'm tryna be your man 'til the end of time.”
“I would swim across the sea just to show you
Sacrifice my life just to hold you.”

Let us pray in thanksgiving for Bruno Mars’ brave public display of faith!
