What would you do if the fire alarm started blaring at your Catholic wedding?
This recently happened to one Catholic couple while the priest signed their marriage license after their ceremony. However, the fire alarms did not go off because of an actual fire.
According to Abby Sue Photography, they “were a little too liberal with the incense,” which set off the fire alarms and alerted firefighters. This resulted in an epic photo-op that the couple and photographer will never forget.
Here’s the viral video below:
Abby Sue Photography told ChurchPOP the full story:
“This bride and groom were wed in a beautiful Mass at Colorado Springs’ St. Mary's Cathedral. Many of those with roles in the Mass were close friends or family members of the couple, including the priest, who is the groom's cousin.
As the priest, deacon, and acolytes processed out of the sanctuary at the conclusion of the Mass, the acolyte holding the thurible may have gotten a little too eager with the incense because the fire alarm started blaring.
I happened to be recording the priest signing the marriage license on my phone right at that very moment, capturing the reactions of the bride, groom, maid of honor, and best man.
I started getting nervous about the family portraits, which we planned to take in the sanctuary. But less than 10 minutes later, the firefighters arrived and, after another five to 10 minutes, located the panel to turn off the alarms. Family photos went as planned after all the hubbub.”
The video went viral, garnering over 200,000 views. Here’s how some people reacted:
“The same thing happened at my wedding a few weeks ago. My wife and I had a Latin Mass after our wedding ceremony, and I guess the incense got a little crazy,” one user commented.
“That’s a memorable day for more than one reason! Lovely picture at the end! Have a long and happy life together! And thank you, firefighters, for your service,” someone else said.
“[I] was at a Midnight Mass for Christmas once when the fire alarms went off because of the incense. Was watching it all clouding in the rafters, going ‘Wow, beautiful, I’m gonna laugh if that sets off the fire alarm, ' not even 2 minutes later, it did,” another person explained.
“That priest just not reacting as if this happens all the time, 😂” someone else joked.
