Please pray for this man!

Police arrested 30-year-old Isaiah Cantrell on Wed., Sept. 17 for allegedly destroying an historic statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at St. Patrick Cathedral in El Paso, Texas.

ChurchPOP reported yesterday that an unknown suspect desecrated and destroyed an almost 90-year-old statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that sat above the main altar of the seat of the Diocese of El Paso.

The El Paso Police Department complaint affidavit says cathedral security footage “shows a man climbing the altar and destroying” the statue.

The diocese says the statue is worth approximately $25,000.

St. Patrick Cathedral rector Fr. Trini Fuentes said he is “in shock, and we at the Cathedral are heartbroken over such an unexpected situation.’”

Reports later surfaced that police jailed suspect Isaiah Cantrell, who, according to the court affidavit, said Jesus’ “skin color of the statue was the wrong color.”

Cantrell added that “Jesus was Jewish and therefore should be a darker skin color.”

The suspect’s charges include “criminal mischief and possession of marijuana.”

The diocese also posted their oldest-known photo of the cathedral, which includes the Sacred Heart statue.

The post reads, “This is one of the oldest-known photos of the inside of the Cathedral of St. Patrick dated sometime between 1925-1930. At the center is the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue, which has overseen the altar at the Cathedral for almost 90 years!”

Pray for the conversion of sinners!

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!
