Is Henry Cavill a Catholic? In an old interview that has gone viral on social media again, the British actor mentions that he enjoyed singing in church and revealed one of his favorite hymns, leading internet users to wonder if the Catholic faith is (still) part of his life.
Cavill is a British actor widely known for starring in several global blockbusters, particularly for bringing the iconic Superman to life in "Man of Steel" (2013).
In the clip that has been trending online, the actor says he loved singing in the chapel, referring to his school days. The interview took place in 2024 for Josh Horowitz's "Happy Sad Confused" podcast. Cavill was alongside filmmaker Matthew Vaughn to promote the movie "Argylle".
When asked if he enjoyed singing and would be interested in working in musicals, Cavill replies that he would consider working "with a singing coach and really see if I could take it somewhere, because I always enjoyed it."
Cavill then explains that he and Vaughn went to the same school, and reveals that "I always enjoyed singing in chapel and stuff like that", to which Vaughn promptly asks, "Oh, did you?
"Yeah, I loved it, I loved it," confirms Cavill.
Vaughn jokes that he didn't like having to wake up early to go to church—something Cavill agrees with, "I mean, that too, but I do enjoy singing, and I would love one day to see if I can take it somewhere."
And then adds, "I do like a good hymn, a good rousing hymn... Jerusalem."

Although he is not very outspoken about his faith, Beliefnet, which tracks celebrities' religious beliefs, reports that Cavill and his brothers were raised in a Catholic family, "but it’s unclear if he still practices Catholicism". Other sources also indicate that the actor "believes in God," even though he does not talk much about it.
In 2013, the actor also went viral for wearing a shirt that read "Salvation" during a trip to Rome, where he visited the Vatican and other historic churches in the Eternal City. Could this have been a subtle way of expressing his Catholic faith?
