The Eucharistic tabernacle at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Pacific Palisades, Calif., was found completely untouched after the church burned to the ground in the Los Angeles wildfires.

Los Angeles Fire Department Captain Bryan Nassour found the tabernacle in six feet of rubble on Jan. 11, 2025. Also a Catholic, Nassour told Angelus News he searched for it "because the whole community has been decimated — it looks like a nuclear bomb has gone off and nothing is standing."

Nassour explained that his Catholic brother and friends are parishioners at Corpus Christi Church and "lost everything" in the fires.

"If I could save just one thing, let it be this, so they have something to believe in,” he said.

Nassour said the Blessed Sacrament was intact inside the 300-pound tabernacle. The firefighters also found undamaged vials of holy oil.

“Talk to any firefighter," he told Angelus News. "In any religious building what usually survives is the cross and certain specific items that are highly religious, unless they’ve been specifically set on fire."

"Msgr. Liam Kidney, pastor of Corpus Christi Church in Pacific Palisades, preaches at a special Mass for parishioners hosted by nearby St. Monica church.

In front of him is Corpus Christi's tabernacle, salvaged from the church by an @LAFD fire captain yesterday."

Connection to the 2025 Eucharistic Pilgrimage?

Interestingly, the 2025 Eucharistic Pilgrimage begins in mid-May in Indianapolis, Ind., and ends in Los Angeles, Calif. on the feast of Corpus Christi.

Is the survival of Corpus Christi Catholic Church's Eucharistic tabernacle a providential connection to the Eucharistic Pilgrimage? Nothing is a coincidence!

Let us pray for all those affected by the California wildfires! 🙏
