In May 2006, Pope Benedict XVI visited the Auschwitz concentration camp.

The moment he began praying for the victims of the Nazi regime, something incredible happened.

After elected Supreme Pontiff, Pope Benedict visited the most terrible and bloody concentration camp that the Nazis established in Poland.

What was seen in the sky when Benedict XVI prayed in Auschwitz

Shortly before the main ceremony in which the Holy Father would deliver a speech commemorating the millions of people who lost their lives, the sky turned gray and it began to rain.

However, at the moment when he was going to start his preaching, the sky changed completely, the clouds cleared up, and a beautiful sun began to illuminate those present.

While praying in front of the tombstones that commemorate the Holocaust in the main languages of the victims, a rainbow crossed the sky, providing an image that moved many viewers.

“To speak in this place of horror, in this place where unprecedented mass crimes were committed against God and man, is almost impossible – and it is particularly difficult and troubling for a Christian, for a Pope from Germany,” Pope Benedict XVI began.

“In a place like this, words fail; in the end, there can only be a dread silence – a silence which is itself a heartfelt cry to God: Why, Lord, did you remain silent? How could you tolerate all this?” he added.

“In silence, then, we bow our heads before the endless line of those who suffered and were put to death here; yet our silence becomes in turn a plea for forgiveness and reconciliation, a plea to the living God never to let this happen again,” he said with sentiment.

What do you think of these images?

Eternal rest, grant Pope Benedict XVI, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine on him. May his soul rest in peace.
