This is so cool! 🚒🤩🚒

Louisiana Catholics and the Community of Jesus Crucified transformed a fire truck into a “Friar Truck” for their annual 100-hour Bible reading marathon at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, Louisiana.

The Diocese of Lafayette parish teamed up with Fête-Dieu du Teche for the 7th annual, non-stop Bible-reading event.

The five-day marathon requires at least 300 readers and takes more than 100 hours to complete. It began Jan. 19 at 12:30 pm local time and ends on Jan. 23 at 4:30 pm.

The Community of Jesus Crucified, who sponsored this year’s event, announced that they will read scripture from a mobile pulpit atop an antique fire truck.

The truck includes several inscriptions, including, “I have come to cast a fire upon the earth,” (Luke 12:49), “Dial God,” as well as words from the Angelus prayer.

Community superior Fr. Michael Champagne came up with the idea, inviting people to attend and/or volunteer.

“We’re going to take about 1836 pages of a very big Bible to go from the beginning to the Book of Revelation,” Fr. Champagne says in a diocesan video.

“Our hope is to get people reading the Bible [and] to spawn prayer groups [and] Bible studies. We’ve had one here since we started this in 2016. So we’ve had about five to six years of Bible study going on every Thursday here in St. Martinville as a result of the Bible Marathon.”

Diocese of Lafayette Bishop Douglas Deshotel also blessed the truck on Jan. 7.
